There comes a point in time when you “know” you need to change your business telephone system and how you communicate. The question is, to what? Technology is one of those things that can be very over whelming with so many options to choose from.
There is so much hype and buzz about leading edge technology that it is sometimes difficult not to be pulled into the thick of it, especially when you’re motivated to change.
Hosted VoIP / SIP is one of those technologies. There are massive opportunities; financial savings, added functionality, lower cost of entry, relatively fix monthly fees, and so on. It almost sounds too good to be true. Let’s do it!
So we put on our armour and entered into the world of a hosted VoIP / SIP solution. We started off with 10 test users. After working out a few bugs, upgraded to fiber and tossed in some new layer 3 managed switches we were ready to test. Everything was running well. Thanks to an independent study, our network performance, including the network that connected us to the hosted solution, was looking great. It was time to make the switch!
We were switching from a traditional PBX, more than 15 years old, with roughly 20 copper lines feeding into it. We were looking forward to a more stable technology, tossing the old problems associated to the old switch, water on the lines, etc. Life was about to move into the 20th century. So we thought…
Well… we spent almost a year struggling to make the system work. We replaced all of the newly purchased switches, made several other changes and it still wasn’t working. Enough was enough, we contacted our local professionals for help, Horizon Networks.
Within a few days of the call we had a brand new premise PBX and PRI installed by Horizon Networks. Painfully, we realized that a Hosted solution looked very enticing but in the end we needed a system we could depend on and came to realize that all the fancy features we were looking forward to could be accommodated by this new PBX. Life was looking up.
In the end we’re much happier having our own in-house system. It’s much more stable and predictable than either of the two systems we had previously. We’re now moving forward with new options and ideas that will bring us everything we’ve been looking for, and more. Now, life really is good thanks to Horizon Networks and your team for helping us.
